NUTURING A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC
Pamela Lewis
B. Admin, ACCM & RMT
A teacher who celebrates the joy and artistic spirit present in all people, Pamela Lewis shares with us her love of music. She encourages us to cultivate our feelings and thoughts and communicate them through music.
Pamela has maintained a private studio in her home in Thunder Bay, Ontario for 20 years. She studied piano with Donna Hamill and has taken master classes and workshops with Christopher Norton, Clarke Bryan, David Story, Vicki Oveson, Brian Usher, and Clayton Scott. Pamela received her Associate Teacher (ACCM) from Conservatory Canada and her Business Administration Degree from Lakehead University.
Pam is a recipient of the Gold Medal of Excellence from Conservatory Canada in PIANO PEDAGOGY. She currently serves as president of the Thunder Bay branch of ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association.) and is the piano co-coordinator for the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts. She is also a member of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association (CFMTA).
Pamela’s students participate in recitals and in piano examinations through Conservatory Canada where they consistently achieve First Class Honours and First Class Honours with Distinction. She also teaches all levels of theoretical subjects for students who need certification with RCM examinations.
Pamela mentors students for participation in the Lakehead Festival of Music and the Arts where they have many opportunities for performance and recognition through scholarships. In June of 2009, one of Pamela’s students advanced as a provincial finalist to compete with OMFA (Ontario Music Festival Assocation) in Peterborough, Ontario.
Pam loves children. As a mother of six children, ages 6 - 16, she understands well the importance of a musical education in the life of children & how deeply it enriches their lives. She brings experience from a wide variety of angles: one, she has been a student herself & understands the challenges of learning and the commitment to practicing; two, she is a teacher who desires to impart learning on a individual basis; and three, she is a parent who understands the ongoing commitment it takes to pay for lessons, to drive children to lessons, to foster diligence in practice, and to always serve as an encourager.
Vision
Pamela’s vision is to lay a music foundation that will nurture the artistic spirit in each person and enable them to be creative and enjoy a lifelong love of music through a wide variety of repertoire. She desires to help each student achieve their highest musical potential through performance, improvisation, technique, theory, sight-reading, music history, ensemble, composition, ear training and memorization. Most of all she wants every student to have fun while learning.
“Adeptness at modifying my approach to accommodate the individual unique needs and learning style of each student”
