Weekly piano lessons are offered as private sessions of ½ hr. each. As students advance, lesson times are extended to accommodate more difficult repertoire. Intermediate level students quite often have ¾ hr. lessons and senior level students have 1 hr. lessons.
I have chosen Conservatory Canada as the curriculum source for classical piano, contemporary idioms and theory studies after a foundation has been laid through beginner methods. The roots of this educational institution go back to 1891. Conservatory Canada promotes achievement in music through a comprehensive program of study, evaluation and recognition for teachers and students. Their aim is to foster the development of musical talent and potential in every student through this nationally recognized exam and grading system.

Conservatory Canada wants to keep students studying music longer, understanding that they need to be engaged with high quality, familiar and current contemporary music. That's why they've developed the Contemporary Idioms Syllabus for piano. It is an alternative course of study & examination system to the traditional classical offering.

Contemporarrary Idioms and Classical Music
The average person considers music to be a singular language. It is one of the oldest vehicles of communication, capable of expressing emotion and often having a profound effect on its listeners. However, the ability to appreciate music in its multiple forms is often ignored. We agree that bilingual people have an advantage over those who only know one language. In September 2001, the Juilliard School of Music, renowned for its unparalleled classical instructors and performers, added jazz to its academic curriculum. The world’s finest music institution is only one of a growing number of supporters backinga combined education in both classical and contemporary idioms for children and young musicians.
Both classical and jazz artists employ a musical alphabet, but they use it in different ways. Jazz is a sophisticated language that is commonly overlooked in lieu of a “traditional” classical music upbringing. Children can learn both jazz and classical just as a child growing up with one English speaking parent and one French speaking parent can be bilingual.
